Wired Productions & Take This, Inc. Tell Mental Illness to Take That

The Town of Light from Wired Productions
Wired Productions psychological video game exploration of mental illness

Wired Productions, an independent developer and publisher of video games and LKA, the Italian games studio behind The Town of Light 🂡, announce the success of their fundraiser to benefit Take This, Inc., a non-profit organization undertaking the task of providing information and promoting awareness of mental health issues.

Earlier in the year, Wired Productions pledged 25% of all net receipts from the digital sales of The Town of Light across all platforms. Right away, several digital retailers jumped on board to provide discounts to further encourage and promote this bold attempt to promote awareness and provide support to those struggling with or affected by mental health issues. Some retailers, such as Games Planet, went a step further by donating directly to the fund, and these combined efforts have resulted in a substantial $10,000 donation to Take This, Inc.

The Town of Light
The Town of Light is a psychological video game journey navigating the horrors of mental illness.

In recent years, the gaming community has become a singular voice, resonating and striking a powerful blow to mental illness by joining forces with organizations that make it their mission to educate, inform, and cut through the noise. Wired Productions isn’t the only representative of the gaming industry to add their voice to this movement, but they are certainly one of the loudest and most dedicated, determined that those who need help will be able to find it, that those who want or need support can obtain it, and that no one has to struggle in silence.

Take This, Inc. is the organization responsible for the popular AFK Rooms present at PAX and E3 events in recent years. The goal and message of both Take This, Inc. and Wired Productions is that, “It’s okay to not be okay” and that it’s not safe to navigate the perils of mental illness alone. They invite you to, “Take this shield in remembrance of those no longer with us and as a reminder that you’re not alone.”

Gamers and game developers are the authority when it comes to effective combat, and the gaming community seems especially plagued by mental health issues, so it makes sense to me for the gaming community to fight back, and aggressively so. I also have a personal connection with mental health issues and fully support the promotion of public awareness, prevention, proper diagnosis, and an increasing variety in treatment options, resources,  and safe havens. This support network is growing, and the movement is gaining momentum, so I fully expect to be writing more articles like this. In fact, I’m looking forward to what Wired Productions will accomplish in the future, both in the gaming venue and in their efforts regarding mental health.

Wired Productions is the force behind titles such as the popular ARPG Victor Vran 🂡, Super Dungeon Brothers 🂡, Last Inua 🂡, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, Vostok, Inc., Tiny Troopers: Joint Ops, and the striking, startling psychological journey The Town of Light.
